So you think you're old school? Do you still think of a "6-Pak" as the coolest way to use 12 grams? Do you still call it "speedball"? Yeah, we thought so. We've got a backlog of old videos, and until we hear from someone else, we're hosting the best of them on our site! We've put them into three categories, rec, tourney, and lifestyle. Check it out, and enjoy!
We have recently re-formated the page to be in roughly chronological
order in each section. Everything is still here, it's just
slightly easier to read.

Part 1, the "Story" 6:13 run time / 11.8 meg size |
In 1985, ABC's "Nightline" aired a story on the "Wargame" of paintball. Some interesting things in this piece, mostly for those of you that look at the gear and sit amazed at what was done with it. Not to mention how fast some of those guys can "crank out the shots" with pump guns. This is the entire setup piece, unaltered. (As a side note, we originally had this labeled as '86. We were wrong. Sorry to all the faithful...) Original footage from "ABC News" |

Part 2, "The Interview" 4:49 run time / 9.1 meg size |
The second part to the ABC "Nightline" story. this features a psychologist, an Illinois field owner, and a Diana Dobbins (Now the office manager at "Indian Creek Designs"). This is, obviously, the highlight reel. Original footage from "ABC News" |

1995 was a good media year. This was aired on the Discovery Channel as part of a "Variety Show" which had different topics each week featuring the latest in technological trends. Everything from automobiles to sports were covered. This particular show, for example, had everything from roller hockey to sky surfing to, naturally, paintball. Name dropping? Solidad O'Brien has moved on to more serious news. There's also Chuck Hendsch, playing in the woods, in camo, goggles only. And if you can see it, he's shooting a Mag. Ahh, the fun of old school tech. We weren't sure WHERE to put this one, tournament or lifestyle. Lifestyle won out, because it only features tournament PLAYERS, not a tournament. And, oh yeah, in 1995 it was fashionable to wear goggles only when you played paintball. Don't do it now, mmmkay? Good. Original footage from Discovery Channel |

Tippman TV commercial Runtime : 0:31 / 1 meg size |
During the 1996 ESPN
"Paintball World Championships" Tippman had a TV spot aired. And,
for your enjoyment, here it is. I don't think it needs to be said about wearing goggles and the like, but I'll do it anyway. Even if you're playing in the Interplanetary Paintball Survival Series, ALWAYS wear goggle when you play, ok? Original footage

Park LLC Demo Tape Distributed 2001 5:29 run time / 10.1 Meg |
Honestly, this is another
example of "What do you categorise this as?" And Lifestyle is the
closest I can find that works. A company called "Amusement Products"
created and distributed this tape in order to encourage "Family Fun
Centers" to install paintball fields next to the go-karts and
mini-golf. At the time, a lot of the players thought this was the
ultimate sellout. But, let me tell you, it's more fun than I care
to admit to go play paintball at a "Family fun" center. Not to
mention ammenities like running water really make your playing
expirence that much more fun. The tape includes the "plastic tube" style pipes, and has all the players in rental "camo" jumpsuits. But you've gotta see it to understand why we phrase it like that. To be honest, this is the best promotional video that we've seen for paintball, ever. It's interesting to see how the game is being sold to companies, and to get an idea where paintball is going in it's future. |

Aired 2004, Discovery Channel 6:56 run time
|
Ahh, the "reality
show". Nothing terribly REAL about it,
other
than they don't have to pay actors to fill an hour of airtime.
Discovery
Channel included paintball in this show to simulate a firearm, but it
was
handled in a light-hearted way. The show put two teams against
each
other to build a fortified "panic room", then they had half an hour
each
to break into the other team's room.

What's R. Lee Ermy got that
this guy don't? Ex fighter
pilot Hunter
Ellis shows the "Tactical" applications of things like GPS, the
internet
and paintball, then has a segment with the "practical"
applications
of the technology. This show was aired 2004 on the History
Channel
Just don't tell them that paintball wasn't invented for the military, and nobody's feeling will get hurt. Original footage from The History Channel |

2004 Super Bowl, Cats and Pats, and this ad was in there. You can also find it at the Bud homepage, but they make you say you're 21 or older and you can't surf other sites because of the flash. HIGH scan level here, just so you can see the details. It's been aired since then too, a MAJOR boost to paintball. It's not every day a company like Bud decides that we're important enough to make an ad for! Footage from Anheuser-Busch companies |

Just when
you think it's safe for paintball, we get another "creating fear"
report on a nationally syndicated show. Mostly focusing on the
reckless people who use paintguns for "urban street shooting", it's
fear broadcasting at it's finest. It's interesting they use stock
footage from Skyball 1 (1998), and I'd be interested in knowing where
that indoor field is located as well. Draw your own conclusions,
we just put it out here for you to see. Original footage from

| "My Big Fat
Obnoxious Boss" Aired Dec 12, 2004 13:43 Run time
|
What can
you say about this? "My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss" is a "Reality
spoof" show. They took several "Ivy league" college kids, and
told them they were competing for a job with a company. The
company does not exist, however. It's a scam to see how low these
people will go to get money. In this episode, they were invited to a corporate retreat, and the paintball that follows is, well, don't cringe too much. For the bennefit of those who can't make out logos, They're using JT goggles, there are "Challenge Park" logos all over the place, and there ARE referees out on the course with them. The video quality degrades near the end, I appologise for that. That's on my end, and if we get a better source tape we'll replace the video here. Original footage from Fox Television

"Monster Nation"
Tank Wars Aired Jan 24, 2005
|
This caught us by
surprise. "Monster Nation" is a show celebrating the gearheads of
the world who do weird things with cars, boats, homes, and in fact darn
near anything. It's like a freak show, but mechanical.
Every week they have their "house builders" create an invention in 12
hours that does something spectacular, or weird, or just way out
there. They've created everything from a flame-throwing pipe
organ to a cotton candy machine that worked on human power and a
blowtorch. Monster Nation took two episodes to create a "Tank battle". Two teams built paintball tanks based on golf carts in 12 hours... or so... What we have here are two seperate episodes, boiled down to the paintball specific segments. Part 1 covers most of the build, the theory, and the trash talking. Part 2 actually has the tank battle in it. But I found the creation really was half the fun, and it was very entertaining to watch. Even more amazing was the fact that all participants in the tank battle ACTUALLY WORE paintball goggles! Wow! And who made the paintguns? No clue. If we find out, we'll link it over. The thought was there to cram them both together and make one big video out of it, but 20 meg for a low resolution video? It's much easier this way for all involved. Oh yeah, that and after 16 minutes, you really should get a drink or something. |

| Mythbusters Aired Feb, 2005 Run time : 5:38
|
Oh yay. More "Geek TV". "Mythbusters" is a great show in concept, but it's this web monkey's humble opinion that they were really trying to fill space with this show. I mean, in the previous show they had a rebuild of thier crash-test dummy with the "Greatest hits", and then they follow it up with this? Come on guys, you're not even trying. Regardless, the show's overall concept is to take urban legends and test them in the real world to see if they would "work" or not. This show's theme was to see who was the better "mythbuster" by putting them through tests of fear, intelligence, problem solving, and ultimately pain. So, naturally, they use paintball guns to inflict the pain. I'm not sure if this is a good or a bad thing in the long term of the sport of paintball, but they did it. On another note, is it just me or is Adam Savage overacting massively when he gets hit with a paintball? Original footage from The Discovery Channel

Believe it or Not Aired 2005 Run Time : 4:00 / 7.57 Meg |
Proof that people will do
anything to get on TV. In Australia they do play paintball, just not like how we play in the USA. They have a few laws down there that... let's say it's not what we're used to here. But becasue of the laws, it allows someone to do some pretty nifty stunts. Enter a man who can CATCH paintballs. Yeah, he's actually stopping them and keeping them unbroken when he does it. To be honest, I think I could do it too under the rules he does it by. |

News "Tank Burst" story Aired June, 2005 Run Time : 1:57 |
As we all know, paintball can
be a very dangerous game. It's safe, as long as we respect the
equipment. This is a news story that made the rounds of the internet, and we obtained some video of a local news story about the tank bursting. It includes a quick shot of the tank which should REALLY make you think about how you store your gear. You really need to watch this video. Seriously. |

Amazing America
from the Discovery Channel
Zap Am. 1994 6:28 run time
|
Occasionally, TV gets it
sorta right. This is one of those times. The
show's premise was to go to gatherings of groups, and film what
happened at these get-togethers. The show featured groups such as
MENSA, a convention of Barbershop Quartet singers (I'm not kidding
either) and the Zap Am. The team featured, the "Green Machine", is a hotbed of namedropping. The guy in the fedora is Glenn Palmer, for starters. Also look for, I believe, Randy Kamyia (APG editor), and a few players who are still playing today. And, no, the guy in the cat mask is NOT Tyger. He's a player on the Minnesota Terminators who (last we heard) runs a field near the Twin Cities today. And, once again, we need to put a disclaimer on this. Unlike 1995, you can not play paintball without full face protection. Please wear the proper mask / goggle combo when you play paintball! Original footage

ESPN Games |
1995 several NPPL games were broadcast on ESPN in an early afternoon slot. It was announced by Jerry Braun and David Sparks. The game you see here is an exerp from the "Ironmen" vs. "All Americans" game. Dave Youngblood (in black) runs up the field, bunkers two players, and get shot himself. And from the same game, but later. Bill Gardner makes a dash for "First flag" points, and gets a rather rude wake-up call when he gets the flag. Not for the squeamish... Can you say "dislocated joints"? Thought you could. This file is an .MPG file, and one of the earlier rips we've made. So we apologize now for the left speaker mono sound. The small size is also to keep download times to a minimum. And, once again, in 1995 it was fashionable to wear goggles only when you played paintball. Now we know better. Always wear a full mask and goggle system when you play paintball. Original footage aired on ESPN,

Ironmen Vs. All Americans COMPLETE SHOW 24:15 run time
|
We got enough requests for it, so here it is, in the full glory. If you can take the high res version, we recommend it. You can see a lot more detail, and the sound quality is just so much better. For bonus laughs listen in for what the cameramen and refs say on the radios when the commentators aren't speaking! Some technical notes, the series was filmed at the 1994 World Cup in Florida. This series was aired spring/summer of 1995 on ESPN. This is not only the whole game, but also the other parts of the complete show. The commercials have been, mercifully, removed, and the show has been boiled down to the game itself. As for the game, we won't ruin the surprise ending. If you've seen the short snippets already, you can guess how this goes. But, it's one heck of a classic woods-ball tournament game. And if you pay attention, the name dropping is incredible. Same disclaimers apply, wear good goggles and a face mask when you play, ya dig? Original footage aired on ESPN,

1995 National Indoor Paintball Championships 3:55 run time / 7.4 meg size |
As a request, we dug out the old 1995 video from the National
Indoor,
and put it up. This game in particular features The "Palm Beach
Predators"
vs. "Appalachian Assault". These were aired on local cable, but
tapes were available through to American Paintball League. Update :
Recently, we've learned that one of the players from Appalachian
Assault, Kip Durant, passed away in 2004. We don't have all the
details. Walt Kimbro, however, is still playing paintball, and
part of the MSPA. Unlike 1995, you can not play paintball without full face protection. Please wear the proper facial protection when you play paintball! Original footage from "Splat-1 Productions" |

1995 instructional video Run time : 5:23
|
As you may have seen in the
ESPN video above, the Ironmen played a good woods game. Late in
1995 they released a VHS instructional video. There was a lot of
good information in it, if you already knew what you were doing.
Not to say it was bad, it just required a lot of knowledge of
techniques and methods. Plus over half the video was showing the
team walking the field they would play. To this day, I don't
quite understand how they got the conclusions they did. What we have for you here is the opening montage, and the "game footage" that demonstrates many techniques of the well rounded woods player. Look for treewalking, crawling, bumping up, and a falling back defense technique. The game was set up, obviously done so it could be filmed. But it's some of the best woods action footage done for the era. Come to think of it, I never did get my free "drill book" either. Original footage from "Pro's Edge Productions"

Houston Heat vs. Phantom Force COMPLETE SHOW 24:00 run time
|
In 1996 Paintball Sports
produced a tournament series specifically for ESPN. What came out
of it was a paintball series that was, well, kinda strange. First there were some goofy rules. For the first five minutes only a team's "forwards" could go beyond the half-way line. After five minutes, the "halfback" players could cross, then after ten minutes, all players could cross. Plus the format of the event was "you lose, you're done." Very harsh for some teams like the Ironmen, who lost in the first round of play. The game we present to you here is the second show in the series, Houston Heat against Phantom Force. If you watch, you'll see a lot of names that crop up now. This show also has a good "ground view" of the field as well, which consists of almost totally flat "panels" along the field to act as bunkers. And it's been said before, but I'll say it again. In
1995/96 players thought it was "cool" to wear goggles only. Guess
what, it's not. ALWAYS wear a quality face mask when you play
paintball. PLUS always
use an approved barrel bolocing device like a barrel plug or barrel
sock. SQUEEGIES, SWABS and PULL THROUGHS are NOT
approved devices. Thank you, let's move on.

I had
stumbled into this video, and I don't recall where. The best I
can tell is that this video was produced in the late 80's, early
90's. I base this on the "Uvex" goggles and JT "Whipper Snapper"
masks you see. Not to mention more pump guns than I've seen in a
LONG time. I'm leaning to late 80's, however, and when you see
the "Big Hair Syndrome"
on some of the fine ladies, you'll know why. I had asked around if anyone knew the rest of the story to this video, and the people over on Stock Class Paintball didn't let me down. Thanks to Njstockplayer for this info! "This paintball video was produced in part by a field no longer in existence in the PA/Philadelphia area. It was called Main Line Paintball. The field is now run by a fellow named Jeff Hoss and the field is now called Poco Loco in Pottstown, PA." |
